Crescent is a Hack Club program. It’s an open invitation for teen builders to join an amazing community and receive crazy rewards for creating technical projects. All funded through Hack Club.

What is Hack Club?

We are a global movement of teenagers learning, building and publishing technical projects. The club is open to everyone, always for free, and we regularly run events that provide real prizes for makers who ship projects, like Crescent. Hack Club operates as a non-profit organisation, led by teens and made for teens.

We’re funded through donations, and the heads of technology around the world invest in the next generation through Hack Club. Our supporters include the Musk Foundation, Michael Dell, AMD, and many others.

What you get

Check out the shop! We support hackers by providing real prizes, all for free, shipping included. Every project will be reviewed by a human, and everybody wins - depending on how many hours you spend, you can earn anything from a 3D printer to a new domain name. We’ve already helped hundreds of games get published, funded new IPads for artists, and every year we give away thousands.

Ship, review, reward, repeat - The loop!

1. Set up Hackatime. It’s a time tracking software that works like a smart stop watch, when you code, it times, when you stop, it stops. It already works where you code, and it’s how we measure the time to reward you for. Once it’s set up, you can forget it exists!

2. Create your project and pick a card. Cards are like twists, your free to create whatever you can dream up, but each week we offer new challenges with higher rewards. Picking a card means challenging yourself to try something new, but you can always play it safe with the wildcard.

3. Build the thing. With Hackatime running.

4. Ship it! Shipping means sharing your project with the world! At this point you have created something real and amazing, and it is time to get recognition :)    Your project needs to be open source on GitHub, and we will need a screenshot of the project running, a brief description, a short README and a linked hackatime project! A brief scan will check that everything looks right, and then you can submit it to review!

5. Review! A real human will always test your project, we look at the time spent on Hackatime, approve the hours we can verify, and give out Moon Shards for your work.

6. Shopping! Visit the shop, buy the thing you want, we will send it to you!

You can ship the same project again, in any week

A project is not over when you ship it. Come back to it a week later or two months later, do more work, and ship it again. The new hours are reviewed and paid like any others.

We want you to keep building on your idea, you wont be penalised for resubmitting, there are just a couple things to know.

Each ship pays only the hours above the last approved one, and needs at least thirty new tracked minutes to be worth sending.

The card is fixed at the first ship. An update to an old project is paid at that project’s multiplier, not at whatever is on offer this week.

Is this legitimate?

Yes! But it’s an understandable question. We’ve been operating as a non profit for over a decade, and have been internationally recognised, hosting tons of cool events and raising millions of dollars. We keep everything public too!
